Our family attended the Caythorpe Gal on Saturday which was extremely well supported by the public. Of course 216 Parachute Signal Squadron attended en masse.
216 Parachute Signal Squadron and their connection to Caythorpe
- World War II History: In 1944, prior to the assault on Arnhem during Operation Market Garden, the majority of the 1st Airborne Division’s Signal Regiment was billeted in and around Caythorpe.
- Spiritual Home: Because of this history, the village maintains a deep and ongoing bond with the unit.
Annual Arnhem Weekend & Gala
- The Event: Every year during the first weekend of September, the village hosts its annual Caythorpe Gala alongside an Arnhem commemoration weekend.
- Activities: Serving soldiers from 216 (Parachute) Signal Squadron join veterans, families, and locals for a weekend featuring a traditional parade to St Vincent’s Church, a public gala, and a competitive football match between the Squadron and the village.
