The F‑Pace SVR Edition 1988 (2023 model) uses the same coolant pipe material as all 2021–2023 SVRs — meaning plastic front coolant pipes, not metal. The metal pipes only became factory‑standard in 2024–2025 SVR models, not the 1988 Edition. From my research this is something I need to rectify in the future, as they are known to fail and cause serious problems. The parts can be bought for £595 from Swallows.
Front coolant pipes:
- Plastic, same as all 5.0 V8 JLR engines up to MY2023
- These include the front Y‑pipe, thermostat housing connectors, and valley pipe connectors
- These plastic pipes are a known weak point across the 5.0 V8 range
Rear heater crossover pipe:
- Metal (factory)
- JLR kept this one metal because aftermarket metal versions don’t seal correctly under engine movement, causing leaks
Expansion tank bleed screw:
- Plastic (metal only in aftermarket upgrade kits)
JLR only switched to OEM metal coolant pipes on the 2024–2025 F‑Pace SVR 575 and the 2024–2025 Defender V8.
| Location | Material | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Front Y‑pipe | Plastic | Known weak point; upgraded to metal in 2024–2025 models |
| Thermostat housing connectors | Plastic | Common seep point |
| Valley pipe connectors | Plastic | Heat‑cycle fatigue over time |
| Rear heater crossover pipe | Metal | Factory metal; aftermarket metal versions leak under load |
| Expansion tank bleed screw | Plastic | Metal only in aftermarket kits |
